How long does a moonphase watch battery last?

A battery-powered moonphase watch has no universal battery life: it depends on its movement. MIYOTA specifies three years for the 6P00 quartz calibre used in the Avanté Lunar. That is a manufacturer’s rating, not a promise that every watch will run for exactly three years after purchase.

The moonphase is a dial display. It does not, by itself, tell you how the watch is powered. First check whether your model uses a conventional battery, a rechargeable system or a mechanical movement.

What does the three-year rating mean?

The official MIYOTA specifications list a three-year battery life for the 6P00. Its specification sheet identifies an SR621SW battery. At replacement, have the technician confirm the correct cell for the movement actually fitted to your watch.

Do not confuse this figure with a warranty period or the lifespan of the entire watch. Your purchase date also does not establish when the existing battery was installed. Without a measured usage history, we cannot predict the exact remaining runtime of your particular watch.

Will it keep running when you do not wear it?

A quartz watch with a working battery normally keeps running on your bedside table. It does not need wrist movement to wind it. A watch winder is therefore unnecessary to keep this type of moonphase watch going.

Store it somewhere dry and protected. Do not casually adopt pulling the crown out as a daily battery-saving routine: follow the manual and consider protection from moisture. After a period of stopped operation, check the calendar and moonphase as well as the time.

Does a stopped watch always mean a flat battery?

No. A depleted battery is one possible cause, but the crown position or a movement fault can also matter. An incorrect moonphase display while the timekeeping hands continue to move is not, on its own, proof of a flat battery.

Note the actual symptom: has everything stopped, is the time wrong, or is only a calendar display incorrect? This description helps a watchmaker investigate. Do not open the case speculatively or force the pushers.

What should be checked during replacement?

  • The exact movement and the appropriate battery type.

  • The condition of the seal and correct closure of the case.

  • Whether water-resistance testing is required after opening.

  • Time, weekday, date, month and moonphase after the change.

Ask what the service includes and what it costs before proceeding. A fresh battery does not itself establish that the water resistance remains intact. Continue to follow the usage limits of your particular model after servicing.

What should you check before buying?

Do not judge a watch by battery life alone. A clearly identified movement, an available manual and accessible servicing make ownership easier to plan. For a wider comparison, start with our affordable moonphase watch buying guide.

If a quartz moonphase fits your routine, explore the Avanté Lunar Line and check the specifications and strap option of your chosen version. This is guidance from Avanté as a seller, not an independent endurance test.

Frequently asked questions

Does every moonphase watch have a battery?

No. Moonphase describes a function. A watch can instead have a mechanical movement; its power source is listed separately in the specifications.

Must I reset the moonphase after changing the battery?

Check all displays and reset anything incorrect according to the manual. A watch that stopped has not tracked the elapsed time during that period.

Does three-year battery life mean a three-year warranty?

No. Battery life and warranty coverage are different matters. Read the seller’s warranty terms to understand what is covered.
