The Best Affordable Moonphase Watches Under €250 (2026)

A moonphase is one of the few watch complications that never feels rushed. Its disc moves slowly with the lunar cycle, showing whether the moon is waxing, full or waning. For a long time, this feature was associated mainly with expensive Swiss watches. Today, there are several interesting options below €250.

Not every option offers the same thing. Some models are compact and traditional; others are larger and more expressive. One watch uses sapphire crystal, while another uses mineral glass. Even the word “moonphase” is not always used carefully: occasionally, a moon-shaped display is really a 24-hour day/night indicator.
That is why this guide compares five current models using verifiable criteria: price, size, movement, crystal and water resistance. None of these watches is the best for everyone. The right choice depends on what matters most to you.
Transparency: this article was written by Avanté Watches, and our own model is included in the comparison. Competitor specifications come from their official product pages; we have not worn every model for an extended period. Prices were checked on 12 July 2026 and may change.

1. Avanté Lunar Line — the strongest material specifications at €180
The Lunar Line is built around a single 40 mm case with an integrated steel bracelet. Inside is the Japanese MIYOTA 6P00, a quartz movement that powers the day, date, month and genuine moonphase displays. MIYOTA specifies an accuracy of ±20 seconds per month and an expected battery life of approximately three years.
The most important difference from many watches at a similar price is the crystal. Avanté uses sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective coating, together with a 316L stainless-steel case and bracelet. The case is 8.8 mm thin and rated to 5 ATM. This makes it especially relevant if you want a modern, slim steel moonphase rather than a traditional round dress watch.
The limitation is equally clear: it is quartz, not automatic. If the mechanical movement and a visible rotor are the main reasons you buy a watch, you will need to consider a higher price range or accept compromises elsewhere.
Choose this if: sapphire crystal, an integrated steel bracelet and a full calendar matter more to you than a mechanical movement.
2. Timex Marlin Moon Phase — the traditional round choice
The Timex Marlin Moon Phase has a round 40 mm case and a much more traditional appearance. At the time of comparison, the leather-strap version was priced at €189 and the steel-bracelet version at €209. Both use a quartz movement.
Timex is an established name, and the retro-inspired Marlin design is instantly recognisable. It is a logical choice for someone who wants a moonphase to wear under a shirt cuff and prefers a classic round case to Avanté’s more angular sports-watch shape.
The official product page we reviewed did not highlight every crystal specification equally clearly. Check the exact version before ordering, particularly if sapphire crystal is a non-negotiable requirement.
Choose this if: you want a classic round watch, a familiar brand and a choice between leather and steel.
3. Casio MTP-M305 — compact, retro and practical
The Casio MTP-M305 is the most distinctive watch in this comparison. Its case measures 44.5 by 34 mm and is 9.3 mm thick. Because of its limited width, it wears very differently from a round 40 or 42 mm watch.
Casio combines day, date and moonphase displays with mineral glass, 50 metres of water resistance and an estimated three-year battery life. Prices vary by market and version. A recent international guide mentioned approximately $135, but always check an authorised retailer in your country.
This is not a watch that tries to look conventionally luxurious. Instead, it is a playful and dependable entry into the moonphase aesthetic.
Choose this if: you want a compact rectangular shape, a well-known manufacturer and a lower entry price.
4. Fossil Neutra Moonphase — larger and more dress-oriented
The Fossil Neutra Moonphase has a round 42 mm case, a multifunction quartz movement, a leather strap and 5 ATM water resistance. Fossil’s Dutch website showed a list price of €179 when we checked it, although promotions may temporarily lower the actual price.
At 42 mm, this is the largest round option on the list. That can work well on a broader wrist or if you want the watch to have a noticeable presence. On a smaller wrist, the same diameter may appear oversized. Measure more than wrist circumference alone; lug-to-lug length is just as important.
Choose this if: you want a larger, traditionally styled moonphase on leather and appreciate regular promotions.
5. LOBOR Aphelion Black — traditional details for $190
The LOBOR Aphelion Black is 40 mm wide and 10.9 mm thick. It combines a Japanese quartz movement with a 316L stainless-steel case, leather strap and hardened mineral glass. Its water-resistance rating is 3 ATM.
Visually, it is the most traditional option: Roman numerals, dauphine hands and a symmetrical display for the day, date and moonphase. Compared with Avanté, you give up sapphire crystal and some water resistance, but gain a softer dress-watch look and a conventional strap that is easy to replace.
Because LOBOR sells in dollars, European buyers should check the final price, delivery time, tax and return route before ordering.
Choose this if: a traditional leather-strap design matters more than sapphire crystal or higher water resistance.
What should you check before buying?
Is it a genuine moonphase?
A genuine moonphase tracks the lunar cycle of approximately 29.5 days. A day/night indicator completes a cycle every 24 hours and only distinguishes daytime from nighttime. If the product page is vague, ask for the movement calibre or check the manual.
Which crystal are you getting?
Mineral glass is affordable and perfectly usable, but it scratches more easily. Sapphire is far more scratch-resistant. For a watch you intend to wear for years, this is a meaningful difference.
Does the size suit your wrist?
Diameter never tells the whole story. Case length, thickness, shape and lug position determine how large a watch appears. An angular 40 mm case can wear very differently from a round 40 mm dress watch.
Is the price really fair?
A low promotional price does not automatically make a watch the better purchase. Check the usual price, warranty, return costs, taxes and access to servicing or replacement parts.
Our conclusion
Timex is the most traditional choice. Casio is the most distinctive and probably the easiest entry point. Fossil works well if you want a larger dress watch. LOBOR offers classic detailing in a 40 mm case. Avanté counters with a slim integrated steel case, sapphire crystal and the MIYOTA 6P00.
Ultimately, the best option is the one whose limitations you understand before buying. Compare more than the dial: look at the crystal, dimensions, movement, water resistance, warranty and return process.
